Broly has long been one of the most infamous characters of Dragon Ball Z. He was never quite considered canon and only appeared in filler movies, but now thanks to Dragon Ball Super a new, canonical version of Broly is about to arrive. And yes, he’s every bit as ruthless as the brutal Saiyan warrior we all fell in love with decades ago.
Let’s go over some things you need to know about Broly before you go watching him in the Super movie.
Hates Goku
What? A Dragon Ball villain that hates Goku? Get out of here! No seriously, he hated Goku even before Goku was old enough to spell out his own name. Broly and Goku were born on the same day and Goku’s screaming kept Broly up all the time, leading him to subconsciously hate everyone’s favorite hero.
Reference to Vegetables
You read that as “reference to Vegeta”, didn’t you? Well, that’s because all Saiyan names are references to vegetables, Vegeta being the most obvious one. Broly references Broccoli, of course.
Born Strong
While the old Broly was the Legendary Super Saiyan, we all know that with Dragon Ball Super Kale took that role. The new Broly will no longer be the Saiyan warrior of legend, but still quite a force to be reckoned with. There’s a reason both King Vegeta and Frieza feared Broly since the day he was born.
